STUDENTS SAY

Although my reason for being introduced to Dr. Anne was an unhappy one (a diagnosis of muscle tension dysphonia and a polyp), I am very thankful that my injury led me to her. Not only has she helped me recover, she instilled a higher level of confidence in my voice and myself./p>

Dr. Anne knows what she is talking about! Until I met her, I had never been informed on what was actually happening physically when I sing. She explained it to me in a way that I could understand. One of the most incredible things about Dr. Anne is that she truly cares about you well beyond your vocal health. After I finished my therapy, she asked me how I was doing and what was going on in my life. She inspired me to pursue dreams I would have never dared to explore on my own. As a result, our therapeutic sessions expanded into a student/teacher and mentor relationship.

Dr. Anne’s wisdom and warmth have been pivotal to my growth musically as well as emotionally.

I’ve taken lessons for years, but now I finally know how my voice really works.

Brian (College student)

I’ve learned more about my voice in these first two sessions than I have in years of other lessons!

PARENTS SAY

For the parent of a young singer, navigating one’s way through vocal trauma is scary and unfamiliar territory. Dr. Anne warmly received and expertly guided us through a successful recovery and beyond. Her holistic approach to vocal health includes rehabilitation of the vocal folds, as well as the psyche. In addition, Dr. Anne helped us better understand our daughter’s potential and gently guided us toward the proper channels to help facilitate her ongoing growth. Our road to recovery led us on a new journey that we would never have known to dream of without Dr. Anne’s solid vocal foundation.  It has been a remarkable transformation and experience.

As a parent of one of Dr. Anne’s students, I have found that she has a unique ability to perceive an individual’s strengths and maximize their potential. There is an innate passion to strive for excellence in everything Dr. Anne takes on, and she is such a positive influence on teens; she instills confidence and promotes safe, healthy vocal technique.

PROFESSIONAL SINGERS AND TEACHERS SAY

I was pretty low emotionally and vocally when I began working with Dr. Anne. I felt beaten down and distressed by a diagnosis I received; the doctor’s inability to determine exactly what my problem was and how to address it was very troubling. I hadn’t realized the emotional distress I had been under for several years and how it had erupted over the summer and fall. I had done all I could to find physical problems  which, of course, medical doctors had been more than willing to provide. But they did not address my emotional needs.

Really looking at what lead up to my vocal problems was quite critical to fixing them. Yes, there probably was a physical illness, but much more than that was involved.  Acknowledging the illness helped me face it and move forward. Knowing I wasn’t “old and broken” also gave me hope.

My voice is much better now, even when I am tired. Being able to sing some of my arias and to receive positive remarks gave me the confidence to move forward. I believe my time with Dr. Anne was critical to my improvement, and I will definitely set up appointments if I begin to feel discouraged or feeling vocally troubled. It was good to have other ears and reminders of things I already knew but had forgotten or didn’t realize I wasn’t actively addressing.

Thank you for your insight and the time you spent with me.

Dr. Anne, you asked how long I would wait before returning to the voice doctor today. To be totally honest, I probably would not return to them. I began my visits there in Dec of 2012, faithfully practiced the vocal therapy that I was given but did not have success. Upon a second scope, the Botox injections were suggested. That was not acceptable to me, and simply a bandage approach to my health. I grew tired of filling out their vocal surveys, which only made me feel like a means to an end for their research. Finally, after my third scope in the spring of this year, they referred me to you. Your vocal therapy is very thorough; whereas therapies I had received before now seem to have been superficial. These past four years have been a very emotional ride for me. I’m not sure why the other therapy was not successful for me, but I do feel very fortunate that they directed me to you! I just wish it hadn’t taken 4 years!
